The Danberrys | "CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock"
At the heart of The Danberrys is the Tennessee born couple of Ben DeBerry and Dorothy Daniel- a truly unique pair of artists hailing from East Tennessee. Drawing deep from the traditions of bluegrass, old-time country, blues, and funk/soul, the Danberrys offer inspired songwriting delivered with raw emotion, distinct vocal harmonies, and dynamic, top-notch musicianship. Rather than responding to a dictated sound, their music further displays the near limitless nature of the Americana genre.
The couple’s musical magic springs from a four year relationship that started when they were just teenagers and ended in the midst of curiosity common to young souls. Five years of exploring the world separately came to an abrupt end in a “what was I thinking” moment and they decided to get hitched. Now, Dorothy and Ben write together to bring a sense of wonder and humor to their music. Music that is rooted firmly in a relationship that has always been strong – even when they’ve been apart.
Their first recording, “Company Store”, was released in April 2011 and won the group great critical acclaim. It won the Independent Music Award for “People’s Choice Award” and secured them an opportunity to open for Robert Earl Keen at the legendary Ryman Auditorium as part of WSM’s Tootsies To The Ryman International Competition.
Stoked by the success of Company Store, the group enlisted the talents of Ethan Ballinger, Christian Sedelmyer, and Jon Cavendish in 2012 to produce their follow up album – The Danberrys. The record was released in 2013 and garnered the group a nomination for an Independent Music Award in the category of Best Americana Album.
The Danberrys are currently touring in support of their current release and working diligently on new material for their next release. They have appeared at festivals throughout the Southeast and are quickly becoming favorites on the Nashville music scene. This year’s appearance will mark their first performance for the CMA Festival, and it is sure to be an incredible experience for anyone wanting to take in the sounds of what can only be called New Appalachia.
