CMA Songwriters Series Celebrates Tenth Season in New York City
Bob DiPiero, Kix Brooks, Tim Nichols, and Jon Nite Share the Stories Behind Their Hits
NASHVILLE – The CMA Songwriters Series returns in its tenth year to the venue where it all began, Joe’s Pub in New York City, with a two-night event on Feb. 11 and 12. Celebrating its decade-long run, the CMA Songwriters Series features songwriter and host Bob DiPiero performing alongside Kix Brooks, Tim Nichols, and Jon Nite. Tickets are on sale now and show times for both nights are 7:00 and 9:30 PM/ET.
The CMA Songwriters Series has been exposing fans across the country and the globe to the artisans who, through their craft, pen hits that touch the lives of millions of music fans. It launches the 2014 season with performances this week at the world famous Sundance Film Festival and will visit London, Chicago, and Austin among other iconic locations this year.
“Nashville’s songwriters are among the most talented storytellers in the world,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “Following this week’s launch at Sundance, we are excited to return to the ‘unofficial’ home of the series at Joe’s Pub. It’s great to see how fans of great songwriting and storytelling have embraced the series since it began in 2005.”
In its 10-year history, the CMA Songwriters Series has presented more than 75 shows in 13 cities, including Austin, Belfast, Chicago, Dublin, London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C. at the renowned Library of Congress.
Brooks and DiPiero have a long history with the CMA Songwriters Series. As CMA’s Chairman of the Board in 2005, Brooks was a key player alongside DiPiero in the creation and launch of the series and its first shows in New York ten years ago as a way to spotlight and champion songwriters. A 19-time CMA Award winner and one half of superstar Country duo Brooks & Dunn, Brooks penned many hits for the group including “Red Dirt Road,” “Brand New Man,” “Only In America,” and “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone.” Brooks was also named CMA National Broadcast Personality of the Year in 2009, 2011, and 2013 as the host of “American Country Countdown.”
“The CMA Songwriters Series has become an internationally respected event,” Brooks stated. “Sharing the Nashville songwriter experience with folks all over is something very unique and I have to congratulate my dear friend Bob DiPiero for his tireless effort in making this happen for all these years. I did this guitar pull the first time at Joes Pub in NY and it’s going to be great coming back to celebrate. This audience gets it and it just never gets old performing there.”
Nichols won the CMA Song of The Year Award in 2004 for “Live Like You Were Dying” recorded by Tim McGraw. That song also garnered a Grammy Award for Best Country Song as well as a BMI Country Award, ASCAP Country Award, and awards from Billboard and Nashville Songwriters Association International. Additionally, he has penned songs recorded by Clint Black, Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Patty Loveless, Reba McEntire, Joe Nichols, Kenny Rogers, Phil Vassar, and Keith Whitley.
Texas native Nite has penned hits such as “Tip It on Back” recorded by Dierks Bentley, “Whatever She’s Got” recorded by David Nail, “Glass” recorded by Thompson Square, and “We Were Us” recorded by Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban.
CMA Songwriters Series host and a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, DiPiero (“Southern Voice” recorded by McGraw, “Blue Clear Sky” recorded by George Strait, and “Lovin’ You Is Fun” recorded by Easton Corbin) will also return to the stage, sharing the entertaining stories behind some of his most popular hit songs. DiPiero has had more than 1,200 songs recorded by other artists, countless hit singles, and an astounding 15 No. 1 hits.
