TRIVIA FOR “THE 38TH ANNUAL CMA AWARDS”

Music Video of the Year

NASHVILLE—“The 38th Annual CMA Awards” airs live on the CBS Television Network Tuesday, Nov. 9 (8:00-11:00 PM/EST) from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tenn. Each week leading up to the CMA Awards, CMA will spotlight one of the Award categories with trivia about the nominees.

One of the highlights of the CMA Awards each year is the presentation of the Music Video Award. This Award is for an original music video not more than 10 minutes in length featuring the performance of one song or medley. The Award is presented to the artist and the director.

Which Music Video of the Year nominee lands in the category for the 11th time in 2004?

Answer: Alan Jackson, this year’s top CMA Awards nominee with seven nods, has
received 11 career Music Video of the Year nominations between 1991 and 2004. Jackson had back-to-back Music Video wins in 1992 for “Chattahoochee” and again in 1993 for “Midnight in Montgomery.”

A video by one of this year’s nominees features appearances by Kid Rock, Tanya Tucker and Hank Williams, Jr. Do you know who enlisted their fellow musicians?

Answer: Gretchen Wilson, whose multi-week No. 1 single “Redneck Woman” references musical influences Rock, Tucker and Williams, enlisted these fellow musicians for her first video.

One Music Video of the Year nominee recently announced business plans for a Las Vegas venture, lending further support to the song and video’s lyric content. Can you guess who’s upping the ante in Sin City?

Answer: Toby Keith. Proving he does indeed “love this bar,” Keith has announced plans to invest in a sports bar at Harrah’s Las Vegas – the theme of which will be Keith himself.

Former “Silver Spoons” and “NYPD Blue” actor Rick Schroder made inroads in Nashville in 2004 when he starred in and directed a CMA nominated video. Do you know the video?

Answer: “Whiskey Lullaby” by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss. Schroder scripted, directed and starred in the video for this Bill Anderson and Jon Randall-penned song, ultimately earning Schroder his first CMA Awards nomination.

No stranger to the category, Paisley won the Award in 2002 for his tongue-in-cheek hit “I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song).” This is Krauss’ first Music Video of the Year nomination.

In addition to Rick Schroder, directors Trey Fanjoy and David Hogan also earn their first CMA Awards nominations in 2004. But one of them also earned their second nomination this year. Do you know which director has a double-shot at taking home the CMA trophy?

Answer: Trey Fanjoy, who directed both Alan Jackson video entries in the category – “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” (with Jimmy Buffett) and “Remember When.” Fanjoy has also directed videos for Country Music stars such as Brooks & Dunn, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton.

Hogan’s video for “Redneck Woman” topped the CMT Top 20 chart at No.1.
