FAN FAIR CELEBRATES ITS 30th ANNIVERSARY
CMA Offers Trivia, History and Fun Facts Surrounding The World’s Biggest Country Music Festival
NASHVILLE – The World’s Biggest Country Music Festival, the all-new Fan FairÒ 2001 is off to a huge start with its move to Downtown Nashville, June 14-17. With nightly shows at Adelphia Coliseum, artist booths at the Nashville Convention Center and new entertainment and amusement elements including concerts at Riverfront Stages, a carnival and the Fan Fair 2001 National Barbecue Championship Cook-Off, Fan Fair 2001 is one hot event. In celebration of Fan Fair’s 30th anniversary, CMA is offering trivia and interesting tidbits surrounding the annual festival:

The first Fan Fair was held downtown at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium in 1972. 2001 marks Fan Fair’s return to its downtown location.

In 1995, Vince Gill fans got up as early as 4:15 AM to grab a spot in his autograph line.

Alan Jackson arrived backstage for Arista’s 1996’s Fan Fair show via helicopter.

Fan Fair is full of surprises. In 1998 Dolly Parton made her first performance at Fan Fair in more than a decade, surprising the crowd by joining Lee Ann Womack on stage to perform “Jolene.”

Ever wonder where the proceeds from Fan Fair go? There is a strong charitable element to Fan Fair 2001. Half the net remains from Fan Fair will go to charities designated by the artists. The remaining net proceeds will continue to go into CMA’s Special Fund for the promotion and development of Country Music.
Artists already confirmed to appear at Fan Fair 2001 include Trace Adkins, Gary Allan, Jessica Andrews, Susan Ashton, John Berry, Tracy Byrd, Kenny Chesney, Terri Clark, Billy Ray Cyrus, Joe Diffie, Bill Engvall, Sara Evans, Kristin Garner, Vince Gill, Billy Gilman, Andy Griggs, Eric Heatherly, Sonya Isaacs, Alan Jackson, The Kinleys, Tracy Lawrence, Lonestar, Patty Loveless, Martina McBride, Lila McCann, Neal McCoy, Jo Dee Messina, John Michael Montgomery, Montgomery Gentry, Craig Morgan, Jamie O’Neal, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Collin Raye, Tim Rushlow, SHeDAISY, South 65, Chalee Tennison, Pam Tillis, Trick Pony, Travis Tritt, Phil Vassar, Steve Wariner, Bryan White, Mark Wills, Lee Ann Womack, Chely Wright and Trisha Yearwood.
