Guided by the generosity of the Country Music community, the CMA Foundation focuses on improving and sustaining music education programs everywhere while supporting worthwhile causes important to the Country Music Association.

Inspiring a love for music in people around the world through the charitable giving of the Country Music community is our vision. Since its inception, the CMA Foundation has given more than $25 million to organizations enhancing the lives of students through the power of music. Music Education has proven to be an effective and invaluable tool by influencing student’s academic achievement, social development and increased participation in activities.

Without the support of the Country Music community these efforts would not be possible.

Each year, hundreds of Country artists perform at CMA Fest for free, and to show its appreciation for their dedication and time, CMA donates half the net proceeds from the event to benefit music education programs on behalf of the artists and celebrities.

The origins of the program began in 2001, when CMA Fest, then known as Fan Fair, moved to downtown Nashville for the first time. From 2001-2005, participating artists could select individual charities for donations and CMA contributed more than $800,000 to hundreds of worthy causes.

In 2006, the CMA Artist Relations Committee, led by Kix Brooks formerly of Brooks & Dunn, decided to channel those financial resources into a single cause – music education – through CMA’s “Keep the Music Playing” campaign to have a more meaningful impact in an area of importance to the entire music community. The CMA Foundation was launched in 2011 and currently gives to over 40 music education initiatives across the country.

The CMA Foundation is focused on shaping the next generation through music education. We believe every child should have access and opportunity to participate in a quality program.  Meeting the needs of each community through music education is complex and often takes time. We work closely with our grantees to establish best practices, generate innovative teaching opportunities, engage local community through advocacy, and strengthen the quality of music instruction. We are also committed to celebrating the successes of the music education community.

Our investment model requires complete transparency, strategy, and focus. Prior to applying for a grant, please review our grant guidelines and determine if your organization best meets our criteria. We look forward to learning more about the mission of your organization, the commitment you have to your community and the many opportunities that may exist between our organizations.
